Privacy Statement

Last update: 22 April 2026

Meevee B.V. ("Meevee", "we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Statement explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal data when you use our website, app, or services (collectively, the "Services").

Meevee is based in the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce number 99208431) and complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Dutch privacy law.

1. Personal Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

1.1 Information you provide

  • Account information: name, email address, password.
  • Child profile information voluntarily submitted by parents (e.g. first name or nickname, age range, preferred language).
  • Communications you send to us (support requests, feedback).

1.2 Automatic data

  • Device information: device type, operating system, app version, geographic region.
  • Usage data: interactions with the app (e.g., content viewed, time spent, preferences).
  • Cookies or similar technologies on the website (for analytics, not for advertising to children).

1.3 User-Submitted Content is used solely to provide personalised features and is not shared publicly or used for advertising.

1.4 Payment information

When you subscribe, payment processing is handled by third-party processors (e.g. Stripe, Apple, Google). Meevee does not store full payment card details.

2. How We Use Personal Data

2.1 We use personal data to:

  • Provide and maintain the Services
  • Personalise the experience for families
  • Recommend age-appropriate content
  • Improve platform performance and safety
  • Provide customer support
  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Process payments for subscriptions

We do not use children's data for behavioural advertising and do not sell personal data.

2.2 Meevee is designed for young children, so we apply high privacy protections by default.

In some cases, we use limited personalisation to improve a child's experience. This may include adjusting content choices, pacing, or difficulty based on how a child interacts with Meevee.

We do this only when:

  • it benefits the child's experience
  • it uses the minimum amount of data needed
  • it is directly related to the activity the child is engaged in

We do not:

  • use children's data for advertising
  • create long-term behavioural profiles
  • track children across other apps or services
  • infer sensitive traits or characteristics

2.3 Parents can view, manage, or disable personalisation at any time through the parent companion experience.

2.4 Our approach follows the UK Age Appropriate Design Code and similar child-privacy standards internationally.

3. Legal Bases for Processing

Under GDPR, we rely on:

  • Performance of a contract (providing the service)
  • Legitimate interests (improving features, ensuring safety)
  • Consent (optional features, cookies, newsletters)
  • Legal obligation (accounting, compliance)

For children's data, we obtain parental consent.

3.1 Cookies. Meevee B.V. uses only technical and functional cookies, and analytical cookies that do not infringe on your privacy. A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your computer, tablet, or smartphone when you first visit this website. The cookies we use are necessary for the technical operation of the website and your ease of use. They ensure that the website works properly and remember, for example, your preferred settings. They also allow us to optimise our website. You can opt out of cookies by setting your internet browser so that it no longer stores cookies. Additionally, you can also delete all information previously stored via your browser settings.

4. Sharing of Data

Meevee B.V. shares your personal data with various third parties if this is necessary for the performance of the agreement and to comply with any legal obligation. We enter into a data processing agreement with companies that process your data on our behalf to ensure the same level of security and confidentiality of your data. Meevee B.V. remains responsible for these processing activities. In addition, Meevee B.V. only provides your personal data to other third parties with your explicit consent.

The main categories of recipients are:

  • Service providers that help us operate the Services (hosting, analytics, payment processors, customer support tooling)
  • Legal authorities where required by law
  • Content and feature partners, only when strictly necessary to deliver the service, and never for advertising targeting children

All partners are bound by GDPR-compliant data processing agreements. We will publish a clear overview of the third parties we share data with — including the category, name and jurisdiction of the third party, the purpose of the transfer, and the data involved — in our Data Collection Overview, and we will update it as our service evolves.

5. International Data Transfers

If data is transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA), we use approved safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and, where relevant, supplementary measures. For more information about transfers within and outside the EEA, see the Dutch Data Protection Authority: autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.

6. Data Retention

Meevee B.V. does not retain your personal data for longer than is strictly necessary to achieve the purposes for which your data is collected.

We apply the following retention periods:

  • Account and profile data: for the duration of your use of the Service, and up to 12 months after termination of your account, so we can reactivate it if you return and handle any questions or disputes.
  • Usage data and child interaction data: for the duration of your use of the Service, after which it is anonymised or deleted.
  • User-Submitted Content (e.g. photos uploaded for personalised puzzles): until you delete it, or up to 12 months after termination of your account, whichever comes first.
  • Billing and transactional data: for 7 years after the end of the financial year, as required by Dutch tax law.
  • Support and correspondence: up to 24 months after the last contact, unless a longer period is required by law.

Once a retention period has expired, data is deleted or anonymised so that it can no longer be traced back to an individual.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. In addition, you have the right to withdraw any consent you may have given for data processing or to object to the processing of your personal data by Meevee B.V., and you have the right to data portability. This means that you can submit a request to us to send the personal data we hold about you in a computer file to you or another organisation of your choice.

Where possible, we allow you to access and correct your information directly through your account or the parent companion experience. For requests that cannot be handled through your account — including deletion, data portability, withdrawal of consent, or objection to processing — you can contact us at privacy@meevee.com.

To ensure that the request has been made by you, we may ask you to include a copy of your ID with the request. In this copy, please black out your passport photo, MRZ (machine-readable zone, the strip of numbers at the bottom of the passport), passport number, and Citizen Service Number (BSN). This is to protect your privacy.

We will respond to your request as soon as possible, and in any event within four weeks.

You also have the right to file a complaint with the national supervisory authority, the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens). You can do so via the following link: autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.

8. Children's Privacy

Meevee is designed for families. Only parents or guardians may create accounts. Children use Meevee under parent-managed profiles. We do not collect unnecessary personal data from children.

Our website and Services do not intend to collect data about website visitors who are under 16 years of age, unless they have permission from their parent or guardian. However, we cannot verify whether a visitor is older than 16. We therefore advise parents to be involved in the online activities of their children, in order to prevent data about children from being collected without parental consent.

If you are aware that we have collected personal data about a minor without the required permission, please contact us via privacy@meevee.com, and we will delete this information.

9. Security

We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect data, including encryption, access controls, and regular audits.

10. Changes to This Privacy Statement

If we make material changes, we will notify you within the app or by email and indicate the date on which the updated Privacy Statement takes effect.
